How To Repair Paint Chips

Paint chips on your vehicle are unattractive and can distract from the overall appearance of your car. Unsightly chips, scratches or other paint defects can thankfully be fixed with ease. You don’t have to break the bank to get your car looking like new again when repairing paint chips. With the right products, professionals can easily and safely fix exterior vehicle paint chips. If you’re interested in better understanding the paint chip repair process, read on.

The first step to repairing a paint chip is applying paint chip repair paint to the area in need. Apply this paint gently with a brush, then smear it lightly with your thumb. You will want the paint to be flat and flush across the chip. If you’re dealing with a more serious chip, you will want to apply more paint to the area. When applied correctly, this special paint can be dry to the touch in as short as one minute.

After you have completed this step, you’re ready for step two. After the paint has been properly applied and dried, you will want to apply a blending solution to remove an excess paint. This will allow the repaired paint chip to blend in perfectly with the rest of your vehicle. Apply the blending solution with a soft T-shirt rag, then use a soft microfiber towel to buff off the residual solution. This second step can be done two minutes to two hours after you applied the paint in step one. Once you’ve completed step two, you’re all set. Even though everything is dry, the paint chip repair will take about a week to fully cure. After one week, go ahead and wax the vehicle for a nice finishing touch.
